Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Delhi
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is one of the most sacred and revered pilgrimages in the world, drawing countless devotees from across the globe. For those traveling from Delhi, this transformative journey offers a rare opportunity to visit Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar, two of the most sacred sites in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and the Bon faiths. Situated in the remote Tibet Autonomous Region, this pilgrimage is as much about spiritual awakening as it is about physical endurance.
The Sacred Significance
Mount Kailash is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva, the supreme deity in Hinduism. For centuries, it has been the focal point of spiritual devotion, representing the cosmic axis and the center of the universe. The Lake Mansarovar, nestled at the foot of Kailash, is considered to be a place of immense purity, where devotees believe they can attain spiritual liberation by bathing in its sacred waters.
Routes for Pilgrims from Delhi
For devotees from Delhi, the most common routes to Kailash Mansarovar are organized by the Indian Government’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and recognized tour operators. These routes require special permits for traveling to Tibet. The two main routes are:
Via Nepal (Lhasa route): This is the most popular route. Pilgrims travel from Delhi to Kathmandu in Nepal by air. From Kathmandu, the journey continues by road to Tibet, crossing the Nepal-China border. The pilgrims travel to Lhasa, the spiritual capital of Tibet, before proceeding to Mount Kailash and Mansarovar. The journey typically spans about 24-30 days.
Via Sikkim (Nathu La Pass route): Another option for pilgrims is traveling via Gangtok in Sikkim, and then crossing the Nathu La Pass into Tibet. While this route is less frequently used, it offers a different experience, especially for those looking to avoid the Nepal route.
