According to the Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva has drunk the Vishand the place at which Lord Shiva drunk the poison or Vish is none other than Neelkanth Mahadev temple. As Lord Shiva has placed the Vishu into his throat and after holding the Vish, his throat turns into blue colour. That is the only reason due to which Lord Shiva is also known as Neelkanth and hence the temple is known as Neelkanth Mahadev temple. It is not difficult to visit the temple. People visit the holy river Ganga for getting the Jal and then they offer the Jal to the Shivalinga. In this way, they seek the blessings from Lord Shiva.
